Chapter 2 First Wish
Jaejoong woke up, thinking he had been sleeping for years. He felt as if he had the longest dream he had ever had, and when he was finally woken from his journey, his whole body was sore along with a huge headache.
Not wanting to waste another second in bed, Jaejoong sat up rubbing his temple. Slowly opening his eyes, he searched for the big Light poster on his wall for mental support. However, when he looked around, the wall was as white as snow, no poster; not even a dot was discovered on it.
“What the hell? Who the freak stole my Light poster? OMG!” Jaejoong jumped from bed, ready to do whatever it took to get back his precious Light. However, to his astonishment, everything in the room seemed to have changed when he searched around it. The bed was a lot smaller, his table was comparative larger, even the room itself had worryingly shrank to a much smaller size.
Could I possibly be imagining all this? Jaejoong thought to himself.
“Good morning Jaejoong!”
“Mor… What the… who are you?” in front of him, there was a boy, a… oh wait, he was that boy from the bus… what was he doing here? Jaejoong thought to himself after remembering the boy's identity.
“I’m your roommate. Jaejoong, you don’t look well, are you okay?” the boy asked, looking concerned.
“Oh my god!” Jaejoong yelled and jumped out of his bed. What was going on? Where was he and more why was he here? He rubbed his eyes and nothing changed.
“Jae? Jaejoong? Do you want me to take you to the nurse? You look pale…” the boy said bending down to check on him but Jaejoong could care less. What was happening to him? Why did this boy become his roommate all of sudden? Was this some kind of dream?
“Let this be a dream… let this be a dream… let this be a dream…” he muttered repeatedly to himself and rocked forward and backward in bed. “When I open my eyes again, I will be in my own room… I will see my Light poster… and I will still wear my Ryuk Shinigami pajama… and I will still write in my Death Note calendar and…” suddenly Jaejoong remembered. It was that… it was that book. How could he be so stupid and not thinking about that possibility?
Jaejoong jumped up abruptly again, nearly knocking over his roommate who had been examining him closely for the past 5 minutes when Jaejoong was still rocking himself in bed. The boy stepped back in surprise and looked at Jaejoong suspiciously. However Jaejoong’s attention was not on the handsome boy who saved him on the bus, his mission right now was to find the purple book. He looked around the room to search his school bag; at last, he found it underneath his study table. Quickly Jaejoong took his bag and rummaged inside for the purple book. He needed it right now. Finally, he had located it, without further ado he open the book and turned it to second page; on there, there was a thin line of words he wrote the day before…
I wish to be his friend and study in the same school. ♥
Jaejoong stared at the line as if it was going to speak to him. He stared and waited for something to happen or at least someone to explain to him. The book had certainly worked but exactly what happened? He needed to know, he needed someone to tell him what was going on…
“Err… Jae? Are-are you alright?” there was the gentle and soothing voice again, Jaejoong looked up and found a face looking worriedly at him. Perhaps he had that person all along…
“Err… I’m fine. Sorry if I scared you!” Jaejoong said, trying his best to remain calm.
“Oh good,” the boy looked relieved, “I thought I had to carry you to the nurse office all by myself… I mean even though you look all light and all but still… haha, I’m glad you are okay!”
“Well… since we are roommates, I suppose I should tell you this,” Jaejoong paused and furrowed his eyebrows, trying to look serious; “there is a genetic disease in my family. All the family members have selective short term memories.” Jaejoong sighed helplessly and looked at the boy’s pitiful face. He felt guilty lying to his hero but he had little choice.
“Oh, that’s so awful!” the boy shook his head, “is there anything I can do to help?”
“In fact there is,” said Jaejoong happily, “I think I just lost all my memories, since the first day I was here all the way until now, I suppose that was why I freaked out this morning.” Jaejoong smiled apologetically, “could you help me recap everything?”
“Oh wow, that’s no joke Jae. You sure you don’t remember anything?”
“Nope nothing…” Jaejoong shook his head and lowered his head pretending to look sad.
“Oh, don’t be sad. I will tell you everything I know since we are roommates and we have the same classes and everything. I’m sure you won’t miss much.” The boy patted Jaejoong back, trying to comfort him after sensing Jaejoong’s pain.
“Well… I suppose let’s start with my name; I’m Jung Yunho, your roommate. We are both first-years in
“What? Biomedical engineering?” Jaejoong shrieked after this tiny piece of info. What on earth?????!!!!
“What’s wrong Jae? You loved your major and we are the bests in our classes!” Yunho looked at Jaejoong apprehensively…
“You are kidding me, we are… I am the best in our classes?” Jaejoong groaned, “Do you know my schedule? Or I can find it somewhere myself?”
“Oh yes, we take the same classes so your schedule is the same as mine. We have advanced calculus II, physics 213 and 214, Organic Chemistry 252, Physiology 472 and BMB 402… don’t worry, you are good at every single one of them, our professors love you…”
As Yunho had spoken each and every word, Jaejoong’s heart sank. How could he be good at them? Those were crazy hard classes and… he was only a high school student. He sighed to himself thinking his professors won’t love him anymore since he had turned to himself now.
“Well, that’s about it. We just started a week so there is not much to tell. I’m your only roommate but there are 10 other rooms on this floor. Our RA is Shim Changmin at the end of the hall here, so if you need anything just ask him.” Said Yunho enthusiastically, “any other questions? We need to be quick, Advanced Calc. will be starting in less than an hour.”
Jaejoong shook his head, “no, I think that’s all. Thank you so much Yunho!”
“No problem. I will let you get dressed and then we can go over to our class together.” Yunho gave Jaejoong another soothing smile and left the room.
Jaejoong got up from his bed and went over to his closet. When he opened it, he was not surprised to see all his clothes had already been piled up inside. If he had been living here for a week, his belongings ought to be here.
As he dressed, he thought carefully about what had happened. So the book worked, precisely as how he had wished. He entered the same school with Jung Yunho and surely they became friends by the look of how Yunho had been treating him. They shared the same room and even the same classes. Did this mean he had already graduated high school since he had entered college? When did it all happen? As he tried to think, he could see pieces of memories of his high school days, his friends, the old lunch room, the pale blue hallways and finally his graduation ceremony.
So it had happened? Surely it had if he could enter

When they finally got out their last class, which was BMB 402, Jaejoong was sure he was screwed and possibly would fail every single one of his classes. His professors had noticed his changes, but Yunho, being his dear roommate had explained it was his poor health. Jaejoong thanked Yunho afterwards but couldn’t foresee his dreadful future. What was he going to do for his impossibly hard classes? He couldn’t see the slightest possibility of himself passing.
“Jae? You are not yourself today… are you sure you are okay?” Yunho, who had been walking next to him ever since their classes had entered, questioned warily.
“I… I don’t know.” He suddenly thought of Yunho’s reactions to his changes. Surely Yunho had been sweet to him but that had been when he was still perfect in his classes. What would he do when he found out the old Jaejoong had been a fake? What would he think when Jaejoong had failed every single one of his classes? Jaejoong felt even worse now. Hadn’t he come this far because of Yunho? What would the point of coming here if Yunho no longer like him?
Suddenly another idea hit him; rather randomly he started picking up his pace. Right, he only needed to do one thing; it will save him for sure.
“Jaejoong, wait up! Why are you running all of a sudden?” Yunho yelled behind him.
Jaejoong only kept on running, even faster now since he knew Yunho was running behind him. He needed to do it before Yunho had entered the room. He needed to do it right now!
